New Year New You?

More like new year, same old diet trap.
Weight loss is the most common new year's resolution made...which isn't surprising in our diet & thin obsessed culture.
As a nutritionist, I am going to share with you the patterns that I have watched on repeat for the last 9 years.
January 1st-24th:
"This year is going to be my year!"
-Diets extremely restrictively only eating low carb & clean.
-Joins gym goes 5-6 days a week with 45 mins of cardio minimum.
"Look at how dedicated I am!"
January 24th-February 28th:
-Crash & burn.
-Start binge eating and losing control around food.
-quit going to the gym
-weight regain (plus a few extra pounds)
-crippling anxiety, self-hatred, self-loathing, shame.
March 1st-15th:
-I need to gain control again, new years resolution do-over.
--Diets extremely restrictively only eating low carb & clean.
-Joins gym goes 5-6 days a week with 45 mins of cardio minimum.
March 15th-May 1st:
-Body experiences PTSD from the January mis-treatment
-Crash & burn.
-Start binge eating and losing control around food.
-quit going to the gym
-weight regain (plus a few extra pounds)
-crippling anxiety, self-hatred, self-loathing, shame.
May 2nd-June 15th:
-"Summer is only a month away and I am not summer ready like I had planned in January! I have to get it together!"
-Diets extremely restrictively only eating low carb & clean.
-Joins gym goes 5-6 days a week with 45 mins of cardio minimum.
-orders new bikini to wear this summer.
June 15th-Sept 3rd:
"Fuck it! It's summer."
-binge eating
-binge drinking
-quit going to the gym because it's summer after all.
-weight regain (plus a few extra pounds)
"I'll get back on track once the kids go back to school"
-crippling anxiety, self-hatred, self-loathing, shame.
Sept 4th-Oct 10th:
"Omg I was so bad over the summer and I have put on so much weight."
-Diets extremely restrictively only eating low carb & clean.
-Joins gym goes 5-6 days a week with 45 mins of cardio minimum.
Oct. 11th-Dec 31st:
"Well it's thanksgiving...and Christmas is just around the corner...I'll start in January."
-Start binge eating and losing control around food.
-quit going to the gym
-weight regain (plus a few extra pounds)
-crippling anxiety, self-hatred, self-loathing, shame.
January 1st:
NEW YEAR NEW ME
** Rinse & repeat for 5,10,20 years. **
I want you to recount how many times that you have made a goal to diet & lose weight.
What were the results?
Were they lasting weight loss, health, and happiness?
No?
Don't feel bad... only 5% of people lose weight and keep it off successful.
Do something different this year. Don't diet!
